Name of the experiment - Preparation of iodoform in the laboratory. Equipment- Conical Flask (100ml), Beaker (250ml), Funnel, Measurer
Rolling pin . Chemicals- acetone (3ml), 10% NaOH solution (15 ml), potassium iodide (6 gm), iodine (3 gm).
Principle: Acetone reacts with iodine and NaOH to form a yellow precipitate of iodoform.
CH3COCH3 + 3I2 + 4 NaOH ---> CHI3 + 3Nal + CH3COONa + 3H2O Iodoform
How to make iodoform in the laboratory.
Process – Take 3 ml acetone and about 100 ml distilled water in a spherical flask, add 7.5 g of potassium iodide, stir it slowly and then add 100 g of 5% sodium hypochloride solution slowly and leave it for 15 minutes. After filtering, the yellow fibrous iodoform is obtained.
