Name of the experiment- Making Gum solution.
Equipment and chemicals - beakers, burners, stands, glass rods, mortar and pestle, sieves, gum, distilled water etc.
Principle - Gum is a liquified sol, hence gum sol is formed by mixing gum with water and stirring.
Process - Make a fine powder of 1 gram of gum in a mortar and pestle in 250 ml. Put 100 ml of distilled water in a beaker and stir it with a glass rod while heating it. When the water gum dissolves completely, then cool it and filter it. In this way the gum becomes a sol.
Precautions -
(i) Put the gum in water only after making the paste completely.
(ii) Always keep stirring the mixture.
